The Word ‘Emerald’ originally came from the ancient Greek word ‘Smaragdos’ that means green Gem and this legacy went to Latin and made ‘Smaragdus’ and finally ‘esmraldus’, slowly esmraldus became ‘Emerald’ by middle English.

The reason why Emeralds were called Smaragdus was that they were found on Mount Smaragdus in Egypt around 1500 BCE while in India and Australia in the 14th century.

Emeralds are found all over the World such as in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Zambia, Zimbabwe, US, Somalia, Russia, Ethiopia, Egypt etc.

‘Malakos’ meaning ‘soft’ is the Green word from where malachite has been derived, but even though physically it isn’t the hardest of stones, its powers make it one of the strongest.

With an awe-inspiring history of over 3800 years, when Malachite was first mined in the Great Orme Mines of Britain, there is more to Malachite than meets the eye. It was also mined centuries ago in caves of Israel. Since time immemorial, Malachite has caught the attention of the human eye owing to its uniquely fresh, earthy and yet luxurious look.

Huge deposits of the brilliantly green rock are found in the Urals, Russia, followed by several other countries like the  Democratic Republic of the Congo; Gabon; Zambia;  Namibia; Mexico; New South Wales;  France;  Israel; and the Southwestern United States, most notably in Arizona.

It has always and very widely been used as a pigment in green paints since an exceptionally long time, almost until the nineteenth century.

From ancient times, it has been worn as a tiny locket on every child, believed to ward off evil spirits and keep the adorned healthy. The Egyptians wore Malachite as a talisman owing to their protective abilities.

It is opaque – translucent and invariably of the many hues on a greenish color spectrum.

It also happens to be one of the first ores of copper to be mined. It is a secondary mineral of copper that is it is usually formed by lime reacting with copper oxides.  It does not yield a huge quantity of copper, though. Thus, even though once it was extensively mined for copper, now better yielding ores are used and malachite is preserved for its use as a powerful and beautiful stone.

This Yellow Quartz is mainly found in Brazil and the USA. Amethyst is heated at about 500-degree centigrade to produce Green Amethyst Stone having a pale Green Color which when exposed in direct strong sunlight loses its color. Know My Story –

Pyro means heat and pyrite comes from the Greek word “Pyr” which means fire. When it was introduced it was struck with steel and it caused a spark. Hence then that spark was used for igniting a fire for gun to shoot. Since then it was named Pyrite; stone that ignites a fire.

It is an iron sulfide and found residing with other sulfides at the time of mining.

It is found under the sedimentary and metamorphic rocks where gold is also found. Though people often call it a Fool’s gold but sometimes it constitutes of gold too.

So better not call any metal especially nature’s gift to be disgracious.

It seems to be pale- darkish yellow with hardness from 6-6.5 at Mohs scale.

Usually, Pyrites from a crystal cuboidal shape and resembles the artificial geometrical models found in Europe as early as the 5th century BC.

When Pyrite is found, it is in dust form and if it is exposed to air, it decomposes into sulfates or iron oxide. Then to preserve it so that it stays, there’s this bacteria acidithobacillusin in which it is preserved and this oxidizes the Pyrite to make ferrous oxide and sulfate.

It’s never an easy process to extract nature’s heaven and smack it on to the world. Things go under extensive workload, pressure, reactions, combination and then prepared. And that’s when it shines so bright.

Talking of prices, if pyrite contains 0.25% gold then one ton of pyrite will worth over $109,000.

So, it costs a higher stake which makes it nonetheless than gold itself.
